Our Mission

HABcore Inc., is a not-for-profit corporation serving Monmouth and adjacent counties in New Jersey. HABcore, Inc. is devoted to providing permanent and transitional supportive housing in a family setting to low income persons who are homeless, disabled, or unable to care for themselves while affording them lives of dignity and meaning.

"A decade ago, a small group of people saw a problem and decided to solve it. Today, two dozen disabled men and women, who might otherwise be homeless, have comfortable rooms, good food and abundant help and support in a family atmosphere." ------Asbury Park Press, 1998

"HABcore program a godsend for the homeless..." ------Asbury Park Press, 2005

Jon P.
The success of HABcore’s program is truly illustrated by the success of our residents. The story of Jon P.’s success in the US Army after leaving HABcore demonstrates the value of the supportive services offered. Before Jon came to us, he slept on an open porch. With care and guidance from the HABcore staff, he enrolled in classes at the community college and began to make long-term plans. He decided the Army offered the best job training and enlisted last fall. He is now a trained communications specialist serving in Iraq.

Charles R.
For 13 months, the Coffey Residence was a lot cheerier and a LOT less quiet thanks to the residence of Charles R. This 19-year-old came to HABcore with a lot of grandiose ideas about becoming a rap star or a great chef. We all laughed and reminded him that he needed to focus on small steps to get his act together enough to at least function at HABcore before he made his first million.

Jason S.
When Jason came to HABcore, he did not know his mother and father and had occasional contact with an aunt in East Orange. He arrived from the Fort Monmouth Shelter. He was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, depression, narcolepsy and obesity. He was a participant in the Guiding Light Program and was attending adult high school. With the help and encouragement of the Coffey Residence staff, Jason earned his high school diploma. At graduation, Jason felt his first real sense of accomplishment. Rather than see it fly away, HABcore’s management staff encouraged Jason to enroll in Brookdale Community College.

Internal Job Training Program
This program was started as a pilot program in July of 2005 at The Laurel House in Asbury Park. It has already produced some success stories; four from our first group of interns are now part-time employees of HABcore providing floating coverage for staff.
